PRECALCULUS: A YEAR IN REVIEW
This year, I've grown greatly as a mathematician. This is the first year I've had the opportunity to take an honors math class, and I'm very glad I did. One assignment I did for honors was proving mathematic laws of radicals and , which I researched and tested different equations on. This was an example of how I grew in the "Reflecting and Synthesizing" habit of mathematicians, because I had to provide justifications for my ideas and develop general rules from examples and apply them to other laws. While working on POWs, such as the 'planning platforms' POW, I grew in the "Generating Ideas" habit of mathematicians because I had to create general formulas and ideas based off of information given from the pow. I also learned new math topics, such as sigma, which I applied to the POW.
As for my growth more generally, I've grown in a few of the habits of heart and mind as an osprey in this class. For example, I grew a bit in advocacy this year because of some challenges I faced in this class. A few times, I had to advocate for myself and an unfair workload between me and my class mates in a few projects. I also advocated for myself to be able to complete missing honors work during my LINK internship, because I was admittedly burnt-out around the previous deadlines. I also grew in refinement when working on my POWs and portfolio this year. I put lots of work into creating beautiful work for these projects and I'm really proud of the work I've done.
Other than habits I've grown in, I've also found pre-calculus extremely helpful for SAT prep. At the beginning of the year, I was behind in many important concepts in the SAT math section, (around a 580 score), but after taking this class and self studying, I've been able to score around a 700 on the math section!
